Monument Mountain Reservation
A South County favorite and one of the area’s favorite hikes, standing 1,735 feet at its zenith.  Stunning views from the summit.  Trail difficulty ranges from easy to advanced.

Kennedy Park
A beautiful park with easy and moderate trails that are dog, bike and horse-friendly.  Also a great area for cross-country skiing.

Beartown State Forest
A 12,000-acre state park with a little something for everyone: hiking, swimming, paddling, mountain biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobile riding and some hunting. Easy to moderate hiking.

Appalachian Trail
A large piece of the famous trail runs right through The Berkshires and up into Vermont.  Trail entrance in Great Barrington close by. Great for hiking.

Bartholomew’s Cobble
Beside the local Housatonic River, with a network of trails leading through forests, meadows and pastures with magnificent views.

Canoe Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary
262 acres of fields, wetlands and woods. Three miles of nature trails, with the waterway suitable for canoeing and kayaking.

Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary
1,500 acres of forest, brooks, beaver ponds, meadows and mountain views.  Explore their trailside museum. From October – May.

Housatonic River Walk
Walking trails that follow the Housatonic River in downtown Great Barrington.  Maintained by local volunteers.

Bash Bish Falls State Park
Located in Mount Washington, MA, its waters originating from a deep, natural mountain spring which falls to the bottom of a deep, winding gorge.  A breathtaking 200-foot plunge and moderate hike down the gorge.

October State Park
Over 3,800 acres, with its highest elevation at around 1,600 feet.  Hunting and fishing are allowed on property in accordance with State Fish and Game laws.

Balanced Rock Park
Near Pontoosic Lake in Pittsfield.  Spoken of in local Native American legend, the natural phenomenon is a large block of white marble “balanced” on a smaller rock.

Mount Greylock State Park
Majestic mountain with the highest peak in the entire state of Massachusetts.  The 3,491-foot elevation allows travel by car, with the summit offering views for until 100 miles. 92-foot-high Veterans War Memorial Tower provides an amazing view. Wheelchair-friendly summit lodge serves meals and snacks.
